Memory, narrative, and knowledge preservation organizes the vault's concepts about what survives when institutions, cities, regimes, or bodies break. Preservation is not neutral storage. It is a struggle over what counts as the event and who has standing to speak.
Broken Spears is the cluster's central case for defeated memory. Codex Florentino, Codex Aubin, Codex Ramirez, Tlatelolco accounts, Cantares mexicanos, broken spears, Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca, Toxcatl, Cuauhtemoc, and Pedro Tlacahuepantzin's 1556 petition preserve Nahua agency after the fall of Tenochtitlan. The city falls, but Nahuatl testimony keeps interpreting the catastrophe.
If This Is A Man - The Truce gives the cluster its moral floor. Levi preserves Monowitz-Buna through concrete details: Häftling 174517, Arbeit Macht Frei, bread, soup, shoes, spoons, Ka-Be, selections, Lorenzo, Doktor Pannwitz, Chemical Kommando, Somogyi, and liberation.
